Individualized

Students have many things in common, but there are even more unique to them. How much technology, what is their favorite way to learn, what rejuvenates them, how much peer interaction, how they think about organization, and so on. I have spent the past 15 years helping the students to shine, as a shadow mentor. A shadow mentor asks the right questions, guides them through the next steps and helps them discover their strengths and the ways that they learn best, and supports them in leading their own way.

Peers and group

Students start to need interaction with peers more and more right around 12 years of age. Discussions, writing groups, acting, presentations, speech, debate, simulations, and real life projects are all great ways to add depth and beauty to education, and they are all so much better with friends and peers.

Mentor Types

Each of us has a different mental picture when we hear the word "mentor". Is is an expert in the subject? Someone we aspire to be like? Someone that keeps us on track with our goals? Someone that listens and helps us?

What is included

Individual work will be done at home with family and parents. We will meet as a group 2X's per week on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9am-12:30pm. Mentor meetings will be scheduled right before or right after meeting times.

Private Mentor

Monthly/weekly "shadow mentor" sessions.

Subject-based Activities

3.5 hours of group mentor-led projects/activities per week around Leadership, History, Science, Literature and Writing. An optional math lab is available on request.

Student-led Projects

3.5 hours/week of student-led, mentor-supported project learning. Projects could be service, entrepreneurial, or experiential in nature.

Parent support

Parents are essential and are invited to mentor meetings as observers. If they choose not to participate the student will write up a report of the decisions made to share.
